Vecina is coined from the Spanish word for neighbor. This is Bond’s endeavor with the property situated directly southeast of the Bond winery. The beautifully terraced volcanic soil slopes of this property reside in Oakville’s western foothills. The 11-acre site faces due east and is the recipient of cool morning sun.
Colour: Deep ruby
Nose: Reticent on the nose at the moment, the lush, opulent, silky palate is where the action is. Layers of black cherry and spicy red fruits with notes of fig and citrus along with earthy, wet forest notes all work together adding complexity.
Palate: The vertical structure of Vecina does not impose but draws you in with a noble calm. The tannins are ripe, but present, so you will want to hold onto this wine for a while, at least for some years before pulling a cork. Best drunk from 2024 to 2070.
Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon
Awards: 96pts – Wine Spectator; 100pts – Wine Advocate-Parker
History of Bond Estate
The Bond Estate winery was founded in 1999 by H. William Harlan on a spectacular property located on the northern slopes of Lake Hennessey, California. With a portfolio of wines from five different locations, Harlan and his team of winemakers showcase the true expression of the Napa Valley ‘Grand Cru’. These wines are much appreciated for their charming and lively elegance.
The name BOND is a surname on Mr. Harlan’s mother’s side of the family. Additionally, it also came to represent the common bond, or covenant, to produce the best expression of the land. Sourced from select hillside estates, the Cabernet Sauvignon wines of BOND vividly demonstrate the range of Napa Valley’s finest terroirs.
From the more than eighty vineyards we have worked with over the past quarter century, we have slowly and vigilantly selected five sites. By way of this valuable experience, we had the opportunity to identify select properties that we felt had the potential to define the ‘Grand Crus’ of Napa Valley. These small hillside Cabernet vineyards, ranging in size from 7 to 11 acres, became the basis for the wines of BOND.
