Colour: Deep and vibrant ruby red with a gold-tinged rim.
Nose: It retains the ripe red-berry fruit aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and block plums extraordinarily well. Gradually it opens up to reveal smoky, toasted wood nuances, with spices and hints of minerals and tobacco.
Palate: It has a smooth mouth-feel, with sweet, polished tannins and a long, elegant, perfumed finish with final hints of coffee with chocolate.
Grape Varieties: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo grape varieties
Aging: A minimum of five years, and spends at least 24 months in French oak casks and American oak casks before rounding off in the bottle for minimum 24 months.
History of Bodegas Campo Viejo
Undoubtedly one of the best wineries in the world, Bodegas Campo Viejo is located right in the heart of La Rioja. They were the first Spanish winery to certify their carbon footprint to the ISO-14064 standard and for over 10 years, Campo Viejo live by their Environment and Sustainability programme.
Looking around the winery you will see the beautiful rolling landscapes, dotted with medieval hamlets and exquisite vineyards. It is protected by the mountains, to the North are the Cantabrian mountains and to the south are the Sierra de la Demanda, both of which block the region from harsh winds. The vineyard is nourished by the Ebro river, La Rioja’s location plays a huge in creating the perfect conditions for growing grapes.
