History of Chateau de Sales

Château de Sales has been passed down from generation to generation ever since the 16th century, when it was acquired by the Sauvanelle family. Since 1578, Château de Sales has seen four different families: the Sauvanelles, the Desaigues, the de Laages and the Lamberts, the changes in name occuring when the estate was passed down through the women of the family.

Château de Sales is currently owned by the Lamberts and their children, who are direct descendants of the Sauvanelles. The property has been in the de Lambert family for more than five centuries. Its estate covers 90 hectares (222 acres) of land, with a little more than half under vine. The soils are mostly sandy mixed with fine gravel and patches of clay. De Sales’ vineyard is planted roughly 70 percent to Merlot with the rest planted to equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Château de Sales has a reputation for producing wines ready to drink at a young age.
