Chateau Grand Village Blanc 2018

75cl /13.5%

“Rather exotic aromas and flavors of dried apple, papaya and licorice.

Medium-bodied with a fresh, creamy palate and a long, flavorful, minerally finish. Nicely salty, too.

Thought-provoking and pleasurable.”

About the Chateau Grand Village Blanc 2018

Le Grand Village is the original Bordeaux home of the Guinaudeau family, better known as the producers of Château Lafleur in Pomerol.

The same team and equal level of detailed attention are dedicated to winemaking in this château in Fronsac on the Right Bank. This results in a red (Merlot/Cabernet Franc) and a white (Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon) wine which far outstrip their nominal Bordeaux Supérieur status, creating some of the most exciting releases in the appellation.

If one wants to glimpse into the Guinaudeau’s savoir-faire, then Grand Village is an unmissable addition to any cellar.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright yellow with greenish tints
Nose: Gorgeous expression on the nose, grass, lemon, green apple, gooseberry and soft white floral touches.
Palate: Such succulence on the palate, a rush of pear, peach juice, almost sweet with a sucrosity that is so appealing and gives both weight, texture and structure but also with a delicacy and light touch. Density of fruit flavours – unctuous and mouth watering but an aerial style with such definition. It has that amazing ability to be tense and direct but also softly expansive from start to finish. So delicious. Drinking Window 2023 – 2035. (Decanter)
Grape Varieties: 74% Sauvignon Blanc, 26% Sémillon
Aging: Vinification in 50% stainless steel tanks, 20% new barrels, 30% one year old barrels. Eight months barrel aging, including 5 months of gentle lees-stirring.Bottled at the beginning of summer the year after harvest.
Awards: 93pts – Decanter; 93pts – James Suckling; 93pts – Jeb Dunnuck; 92pts – Wine Cellar Insider

History of Château Lafleur

Château Lafleur is a tiny 4.5-hectare Pomerol property located opposite Pétrus and producing wines of comparable quality. Lafleur is owned and run by Sylvie and Jacques Guinadeau. Its vineyards are situated on the gravel-rich Pomerol plateau and adjoin those of La Fleur-Pétrus. The soils here are particularly deep and are enriched by deposits of potassium and iron. Only natural fertilisers are used and yields are painfully low, even by Pomerol standards.

Lafleur’s wine is typically a blend of Merlot (50%) and Cabernet Franc (50%). It is aged in small oak barrels (50% new) for 18 months. Wines from Lafleur display a spectacularly intense perfume (partly attributable to the high percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend) and display layers and layers of concentrated, black fruits, minerals, tobacco spices and creamy liquorice on the palate. The best vintages can last for up to 50 years.
