75cl / 14.5%

Stylish and suave, highlights of violets and blackcurrant meld deliciously with roasted tomato and capsicum characters. As far as vintages of The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon go, you would need to travel some way back in time to find a wine of such balance and harmony.

About the d`Arenberg The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon

Coppermine Road runs parallel to our very best Cabernet vineyard in McLaren Vale, just metres from the winery, cellar door and restaurant. Planted to an almost extinct clone, this vineyard rarely yields greater than one tonne to the acre.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Ruby Red
Nose: The cooler, slightly wetter vintage has marked this wine in a very positive way. Allow a few minutes in glass for the full array of aromas to evolve. Over the course of this period your sense of smell will be led from savoury, cedar, cigarbox, sage, oregano and ferrous notes eventually through to lifted violets, blackcurrant, boysenberry, mulberry, mint and citrus peel.
Palate: The palate will similarly start out reasonably tight but will open generously, presenting opulent fruit on the attack, matched with a medium bodied mid palate and complemented and drawn out through ripples of fine, chalky tannins.
Grape Varieties: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

History of d’Arenberg

McLaren Vale is home to some of the oldest vines in the country, dating as far back as 1850. The Mediterranean climate, huge array of soil types and proximity to the ocean with the resultant cooling sea breezes make it an idyllic location for wine grape growing.

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member, Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery. Chester walks through the vineyards and determines the ideal picking time for each individual vineyard. d’Arenberg is one of the only wineries in Australia to basket press both white wines as well as reds, making for a labour intensive process, but the quality of the results makes this worthwhile as the action is controlled and extremely gentle.
