Colour: Bright deep gold with a tawny centre.
Nose: Sweet aromatics of fudge and Muscovado sugar. Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity.
Palate: Rich dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classic aged Oloroso sherry and toasted walnut bread combined with chocolate orange.
Conclusion: Tremendously complex and long.
STANDING THE TEST OF TIME
In 1826, James Allardice founded one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland. Together with the help of his nephew and cousins, the enterprising gentlemen set up on the estate of Boynsmill. With the perfect blend of land, money, technical knowledge and business acumen, Allardice produced his ‘Guid GlenDronach’ single malt.
Originally, all of the workers and their families lived on site at the GlenDronach Distillery. The grand Georgian building Glen House, built in 1771, was home to many of the distillery’s managers. Today, Glen House is used for corporate entertainment and is enjoyed by guests from around the world.
Down the years, the distillery Allardice created thrived under the stewardship of investors like Walter Scott in 1830, Captain Charles Grant in 1920 and William Teacher & Sons in 1960. In 1968, GlenDronach was released as a single malt brand for the first time and the brand’s reputation grew from strength to strength.
The BenRiach Distillery Company became GlenDronach’s proud new owner in 2008 and they were named Global Whisky Distiller of the Year 2015! In 2016, Brown-Forman Corporation took over, bringing together three outstanding Single Malt Scotch Whisky Brands into their portfolio: The GlenDronach, BenRiach and Glenglassaugh.
A UNIQUE HERITAGE AND TRADITIONAL PAST
The GlenDronach Distillery, ensure that the distilling methods used 200 years ago are still used today, from the germination of the barley to the flow of the purest middle cuts of distilled spirit, every step in The GlenDronach journey is taken with meticulous care and immaculate timing.
The malt mill, glistening copper mash tun and traditional wooden washbacks form part of a vigorous but carefully attended process. The elegant copper pot stills distil and re-distil the richest spirit which is then filled into the finest casks and left patiently maturing in their warehouses. Nearly 70% of the flavour in whisky is derived from the cask it has been matured in, which is why the wood is important. Over the years of extended maturation, these carefully chosen renowned sherry seasoned casks help create the unique richly sherried style that The GlenDronach is famous for.
