As the legend goes it was don Francisco de Carabantes, a Dominican friar, who brought the first grapevines to Chile mid XVI century. Von Siebenthal has paid homage to the memory of Carabantes by dedicating his name on its Syrah label.

Characterized by intense aromas of violet, rosemary and blueberries, Von Siebenthal’s Syrah embodies a strong personality which makes it unique.

A very elegantly structured wine of fine tannins which can be laid down and stored for 10 to 12 years.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Rosy and rusty in color
Nose: Intense aromas and flavours include blackcurrant and blackcurrant leaf, sweet blackberries and blueberries, hints of white pepper, mint and violets.
Palate: On the palate mulberries add to the fruit character. There is also a little creaminess from the oak which lifts to leave some cinnamon spice and a hint of smoke on the finish. The texture of this wine is really velvety. There is a great balance of hardly noticeable tannins, lower than anticipated alcohol and that lovely fruit which also means that it will keep a few years if you have very strong willpower. A very food friendly wine; drink with lamb, beef and other red meats, turkey with cranberry sauce or spicy foods

History of Von Siebenthal

The philosophy behind Viña von Siebenthal is similar to that of the Bordeaux chateaux; vineyards, cellar and house blend together harmoniously to facilitate the creation of an exceptional wine.

Viña von Siebenthal’s four main vineyards are in the historical wine-growing area of Panquehue, in the Aconcagua Valley. This is a very small sub-apellation of the Aconcagua Valley in Chile and one of the most exclusive and prestigious areas in Chile for the production of red and white Bordeaux varietes. This is a semi desert area half way between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. This ideal climate ensures excellent phyto-sanitary conditions.

For the Merlot and the Cabernet Franc it is the cool clay-limestone soil of the plains, while the warm sandy, stony soil of the hills is ideally suited for the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Syrah, the Carmenère and the Petit Verdot.
