Tasting Notes
Colour: Maroon Red
Nose: Smoky tobacco and a definite “cabernet” leafy/dried herb note on the dark fruited nose leads to a sophisticated and elegant palate that doesn’t rely on muscle.
Palate: A brooding savoury side, plush dark fruits transports this to a deliciously ethereal level. It’s full-bodied, full in the middle palate style with red cherry and blackberry fruits and high-quality oak and grape tannins that run long with the fruit. Fruit-filled, focused, and generous in style.
Grape Varieties: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Awards: 90pts Decanter, 90pts The Wine Front
History of Chapel Hill Winery
Located in South Australia’s McLaren Vale, Chapel Hill Winery was established in 1973 by Tom Nelson and takes its name from a historic ironstone chapel built in 1865. Under the guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill strives to hand craft wines with purity and balance. To pursue this belief of “sense of place”, all of the grapes and wines are handled gently in small batches with a sensitive winemaking philosophy.
One of the first to embrace the McLaren Vale Sustainable Australia Winegrowing program, Chapel Hill continues to improve their sustainable grape-growing practices which results in fruit that articulates the wonderful characteristics of McLaren Vale. “The purity and balance expressed in our wines is inspired by a deep respect for our land and vines.” Michael Fragos.
