Chapel Hill The Parson GSM (Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre) 2021

75cl / 14.5%

“The Parson is one of those predictable yet always solidly made labels that continually offers bang for buck… notes of grape jelly, but not in an overly ripe way. Red berries are there too, along with subtle floral, mocha and spice nuances.

The nose leads gently onto a medium- to full-bodied palate, laced with dried herbs and spices and supported by sandy textured tannins.
This was built for weeknight drinking beside a bowl of Bolognese. “

About the Chapel Hill The Parson GSM (Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre) 2021

The Parson range is our invitation to discover the balance and purity we strive for in every bottle of Chapel Hill. Driven by an understanding that great wine is made in the vineyard, each wine is carefully crafted to highlight the delicious varietal characteristics of these extraordinary grape varieties.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Purplish red
Nose: A little oak, a regional cocoa note, plus a brambly dried mint and sage character are to be found, also.
Palate: The Parson GSM provides a gateway to these quintessential McLaren Vale varieties with a focus on bright fruit flavours and a breezy texture. The soft and savoury red berries of grenache, the strength, spice and dark berries of shiraz and the tang and meatiness of mouvedre are skilfully blended in this flowing, layered GSM with persistent fine grained tannins. This would be perfect with rustic dishes such as ragu.
Grape Varieties: 54% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, 6% Mourvèdre
Awards: 94pts Halliday Wine Companion; 89pts Decanter, 90pts The Wine Front

History of Chapel Hill Winery

Located in South Australia’s McLaren Vale, Chapel Hill Winery was established in 1973 by Tom Nelson and takes its name from a historic ironstone chapel built in 1865. Under the guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill strives to hand craft wines with purity and balance. To pursue this belief of “sense of place”, all of the grapes and wines are handled gently in small batches with a sensitive winemaking philosophy.

One of the first to embrace the McLaren Vale Sustainable Australia Winegrowing program, Chapel Hill continues to improve their sustainable grape-growing practices which results in fruit that articulates the wonderful characteristics of McLaren Vale. “The purity and balance expressed in our wines is inspired by a deep respect for our land and vines.” Michael Fragos.
