Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep violet red
Nose: An enticing nose of mulch, fresh leather and dark red berries mix with inky tones on the nose.
Palate: Wonderfully intense, laden with carefully balanced portions of ripe black and red fruit flavours, energizing acidity and plush tannins – all in total harmony. The team at Chapel Hill must have been licking their lips when fruit from this famous vineyard hit the crusher! The Road Block vineyard comes through, once again, staining everything in its path! Opaque, controlled power! Succulent enough to enjoy now but cellarable for many years.
Grape Varieties: 100% Shiraz
Ageing: 20 months in 100% French oak hogsheads to provide complexity and maturation of flavours
Awards: 95pts Andrew Caillard
History of Chapel Hill Winery
Located in South Australia’s McLaren Vale, Chapel Hill Winery was established in 1973 by Tom Nelson and takes its name from a historic ironstone chapel built in 1865. Under the guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill strives to hand craft wines with purity and balance. To pursue this belief of “sense of place”, all of the grapes and wines are handled gently in small batches with a sensitive winemaking philosophy.
One of the first to embrace the McLaren Vale Sustainable Australia Winegrowing program, Chapel Hill continues to improve their sustainable grape-growing practices which results in fruit that articulates the wonderful characteristics of McLaren Vale. “The purity and balance expressed in our wines is inspired by a deep respect for our land and vines.” Michael Fragos.
