Established in 1939, AOC Rully produces monovarietal wines, 100% Pinot Noir for the reds and 100% Chardonnay for the whites. Among the wines of the appellation are Rully Village and 1er Cru wines from 23 listed climates: Agneux, Clos St Jaques, Grésigny, Meix (Cadot and Caillet).
It is also one of the appellations or the Crémant de Bourgogne is elaborated. The red wines are perfectly structured and fruity on a roasted poultry, the white wines ample, long and fruity perfectly combining with a river fish.
Tasting Notes
Colour: A magnificent bright yellow
Nose: For a first vintage, this wine was immediately marked by its “terroir” consisting of white clay, with an opulent nose of aromas of white flesh fruits, chalky notes, verbena and grilled toast, slightly woody due to vinification and aging in a new wooden lightning.
Palate: The palate is beautiful, fine and fleshy, fruity and very digestible, with a very beautiful aromatic persistence reminiscent of the cherry kernel at the end of the palate.
Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Awards: 91pts – Wine Advocate-Parker
History of Domaine De Villaine
Domaine de Villaine is located in Bouzeron, nestled in the Côte Chalonnaise region between Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay to the north and Rully and Mercurey to the south.
Planted with vines by the monks of Cluny in the Middle Ages, this small, sunny valley has a rich and lengthy tradition of producing quality wines which reflect their exceptional terroir. Here, vines are grown exclusively on the slopes : the nutrient-poor, limestone-rich soil allows precise yield control, while a warm microclimate favors ripening of the grapes.
