Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale yellow, with bright hints of green. A fine, persistent and abundant sparkle lifting to a good crown.
Nose: Fine, delicate aromas, combining tones of green apple and pear, with light resonances of Mediterranean fruits – peach, melon and pineapple, over a base of citrus, all beautifully balanced by light toasty aromas from bottle maturation.
Palate: The palate is refreshing, the sparkle balancing the green and citrus fruits. It is light but long and elegant.
Grape Varieties: Parellada , Macabeo y Xarel·lo.
Awards: Gold Medal. Berliner Wein Trophy 2014.

History of Freixenet

The first bottle of Freixenet was released in 1914, the creation of a couple named Pedro Ferrer & Dolores Sala who were both from winemaking families. Dolores’s family had been making wine since 1861 at their Casa Sala Property. The name Freixenet comes from the nickname given to Pedro, La Freixeneda, which means ash tree grove in Catalan! Together with Dolores’s keen interest and Pedro’s business savvy, they replanted their vineyard with white varietals to make sparkling wine, after the plague wiped out most of their vineyard. The Ferrer family continues to own and manage Freixenet today.
