Paul Jaboulet-Aine: La Chapelle Hermitage 2005 Magnum 1.5L

75cl / 14.5%

“A big step up from Jaboulet’s La Petite Chapelle, this is on a par with some of Jaboulet’s past efforts.

It’s richly concentrated, yet nuanced, with notes of blood and mineral added to ripe cassis fruit and accented by hints of vanilla and spice.

The tannins form an almost creamy texture in the mouth, and the finish lingers a good long time. Drink 2012–2025.”

About the Paul Jaboulet-Aine: La Chapelle Hermitage 2005 Magnum 1.5L

Tasting Notes

Colour: Intense ruby red, limpid and bright.
Aroma: Highly complex, distinguished nose, revealing the Syrah’s great finesse. Black fruits, sweet spices and, ultimately, finely woody.
Palate: Very juicy, with nice drive to the black currant and boysenberry fruit, which is pushed by dark plum sauce, black licorice and sweet toast notes. The long, fleshy finish shows the polished grip of the vintage. Best from 2010 through 2022. (WS)
Grape Varieties: Syrah 100%
Awards: 93pts – Wine Spectator; 93pts – Wine Enthusiast; 91pts – Jeb Dunnuck

History of Paul Jaboulet-Aîné

Paul Jaboulet Aine has been a part of the Rhône Valley wine industry for almost two centuries, beginning with a small plot of land on the hills of Hermitage, before expanding throughout the region. Today, it encompasses more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of vineyards making wines from the northern and southern Rhône, including Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu and Cornas.

The maison was passed through the Jaboulet family until the purchase by the Frey family in 2006. The Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle is the estate’s flagship wine and is one of the most sought-after wines from the Rhône, reaching high prices at auction.
