History of Le Chiuse
Azienda Agricola Le Chiuse is an Italian wine producer, located in Tuscany. The estate specializes in producing Brunello di Montalcino from the Sangiovese wine grape variety.
The vineyards registered as Brunello are located on the north/northeast side of the Montalcino hill at about 330 meters above sea level, while olive trees, woods and a younger vineyard are located on the south-eastern side at 500 meters above sea level. There are 5 vineyards, all Sangiovese Grosso, with an average age of over 15 years, for a total of 8 hectares. The spurred cordon-trained vines are mostly created from a mass selection from the Il Greppo estate. The average planting density is around 4500 vines per hectare. The soil is of oceanic origin, therefore rich in fossil material. It consists of clay streaks as well as a good presence of marl and tuff. The result is the production of a wine characterized by an exaltation of perfumes and aromas,
Every year Le Chiuse produces almost 30,000 bottles of wine including Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and a classic method sparkling wine called Stellare. In addition to wine, extra virgin olive oil, grappa and honey are produced.
